Verna Elizabeth Josie, Kaukauna age 101 passed away Tuesday July 31, 2018 at St Paul Elder Services, Kaukauna. She was born September 14, 1916 in Waupaca to the late Peter and Josephine (Paronto) Peterson. On October 17, 1951 she was united in marriage to Vernon H. Josie, who preceded her in death March 9, 2001. Verna was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna for over 50 years where she was active in United Methodist Women, Esther Circle and the previous Tuesday morning Bible study. She had previously worked for Super Valu in Kaukauna and Appleton. Later she worked for the Kaukauna School District in the hot lunch program. Her favorite hobbies were knitting bedroom slippers and crocheting for her children and grandchildren. Survivors are her daughters: VerLea (Robert) Doro, Appleton; Ione Ashauer, Kaukauna; Loretta (Joseph) Jansen, West Palm Beach FL; Shirley (Jeff) Baken, Rogers MN; and son: Vernon (Joyce) Josie, Manawa. She is further survived by 1 sister-in-law Jackie Peterson, Lewiston ID and 20 grandchildren: Diane(Donald) Pfister, New Holstein; Ronald (Michelle) Genske ,Hudson WI; Deborah Genske, Green Bay; Deanna Genske, Manitowoc; Cindy (James) Zick, Weyauwega; Kim (Jon) Larsen, Appleton; Anthony (Kelly) Ashauer, Kaukauna; Mark (Kay) Ashauer, Kaukauna; Ann (William) Heilman, Kaukauna; Jennifer ((Randy) Roers, New Holstein; Denise August, Green Acres FL; Amy (Robert) Balassonne, Boynton Beach FL; Patty (Matt) Fuerst, North Pole AK; Angie Josie, Richmond VA; Ryan (Jean) Josie, Appleton; Corey Josie, Waupaca; Erin (Josh) Youngblood, Black Earth; Mason Josie, Beaver Dam; Jeremy Baken, Elk River MN; Matthew Baken, Rogers MN. 3 step grandchildren, Deborah (Greg Olson) VanRens, Green Bay; Greg (Donna) Doro, Cedarburg and Roberta (Dale) Pick, Green Bay. She is also survived by 32 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandsons, 2 step great-great grandsons and 2 step great-great granddaughters. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Phyllis Genske, sons-in-law John Ashauer and Ronald Genske, daughter-in-law Janet Josie, sister Lenora (Merlin) Braden, Lewiston ID; brother Clayton Peterson, Lewiston ID; mother and father-in-law Chris (Madeline) Josie, 2 sisters and brothers-in-law Marjorie (Raymond) Zick and Alice (Forest) Harris, one brother & sister-in-law Orb (Leona) Josie, 1 grandson-in-law John August and her first husband Samuel G. Thompson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 2300 E Wisconsin Avenue, Kaukauna WI beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3: 00 p.m. with Pastor Lucretia Fehrmann officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made payable to Peace United Methodist Church where a memorial has been established in her name. Burial will be at Northport-Ostrander cemetery County Highway X New London, Waupaca County. The family would like to thank the staff on Birch Place at St Paul Elder Services for their dedicated and loving care for Verna (there are too many wonderful nurses, CNAS and staff to mention their names), the St Paul Hospice Staff and to Dr. Bruce Danz, Kaukauna Clinic for his care and compassion over the past several years.
