Robert E. Sams, MD Robert E. Sams, MD, 78, of Parkersburg WV; passed away at his residence on July 28, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith A. Sams and his parents Robert & Irene Sams. He is survived by his three children; R. Steven, Patricia A. (Bryan Marhsall) and Erik J. Sams; two grandchildren George and Elliott Sams, and his cousin Norma Jean Harber of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, where he was first chair clarinet in the Parkersburg Big Red Marching Band. He was a graduate of the WVU School of Medicine. He served as a Flight Surgeon In The United States Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico and Colorado Springs Air Force Base in Colorado. He then practiced in Family Medicine in St. Petersburg, Florida. He completed his Psychiatric Residency at the Rollman Psychiatric Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Sams was the founding member of Psychiatric Associates, which was one of the first psychiatric outpatient clinics in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He was director of the Psychiatric Department of St. Joseph’s Hospital. He also worked at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio as a psychiatrist for the Hudson Health Center, and multiple facilities throughout the Mid-Ohio River Valley. Most recently, he was the Medical Director of Worthington Center Inc. in West Virginia, Worthington Center Management Company Inc. and Robert E. Sams MD., PLLC. He was also a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and the Shriner’s Club. Graveside Services will be Thursday 5:00 pm at the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with military rites by the American Legion Post #15.
