Richard O. Carpenter Richard O’Neal “Dick” Carpenter, 83 of Vienna, passed away August 21, 2018 at Camden Clark Medical Center. He was born January 10, 1935 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Garnetta (Strother) Jenkins and his late stepfather Carl Jenkins. Dick retired from Diamond Glass after 33 years of service and had formerly worked at Johns Manville. After retirement he worked with Williams Brothers Construction for several years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a former member of Cornerstone Gospel Church for several years. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and was a diehard fan of Parkersburg High and WVU. Surviving is his loving wife of almost 63 years, Betty (Boggs) Carpenter, daughter Nanette Ruark (Darrell) of Marengo, OH, two sons: Richard Carpenter Jr. (Charlotte) of Macksburg, OH and Kelly Carpenter of Vienna, three sisters: Glenedi Tice (William) of Bradenton, FL, Carol Modesitt (Bruce) of Longs, SC and Janet Haught of Marietta. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Jeremy Carpenter, Janette Hart (Rick) and Eric Ruark, eight great grandchildren: Reagan (John), Kole, Brandon, Drew, Lily, Jazzmine, Laekyn and Payson, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephew and special aunt Verona Enoch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Jenkins. Funeral services will be Friday 11AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor John Lands officiating. Interment will be Saturday 10AM at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8PM and one hour prior to services.
