Obituary for Richard P. ‘Dick’ Miller Bloomington – Richard P. ‘Dick’ Miller, 82, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:03 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Normal with Reverends Randy and Debbie Reese officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military rites will be accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements. Interment will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton. Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or Central Illinois Down Syndrome Association. Dick was born July 29, 1936 in Tiskilwa, IL, the son of Raymond P. and Blanche Ames Miller. He married Avalon Sash on June 28, 1958 in Tiskilwa, she survives in Bloomington. Also surviving are his sons, Dr. Gary (Jan) Sash of Macomb and Ron (Terri) Miller of Centreville, VA; grandchildren, Nick Sash, Jason Sash, Eric Sash, Jessica Kirkpatrick, and Jennifer Miller; great-grandchildren, Matthew Sash, Makayla Sash, Maxwell Sash, Logan Sash, Brooke Kirkpatrick, and Abby Kirkpatrick; brothers, David (Deko) Miller of Tiskilwa and Jerry (Carolyn) Miller of Lady Lake, FL; and brother-in-law, Russell Nelson of Minooka. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kai Nelson. Dick began his career at General Telephone Co. serving over 40 years, he retired as the Director of Governmental Affairs. He was a member of the Western Illinois University Foundation Board, where he served for 25 years. Dick was also a long time member of Cavalry United Methodist Church where he served in a variety of ways, he enjoyed ushering and greeting others. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed socializing with family and friends, he especially enjoyed his visits with the “Garage Kings” in his neighborhood. Dick was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
