Obituary for Jeremiah G. Murray

Print
Jeremiah Gerard Murray of Sea Girt, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, at the age of 86. He was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, and graduated from Jersey Prep. He went on to get a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology and received his master’s in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology. He served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army. He had a 30-year career at Fort Monmouth, where he was a senior patent advisor.
He married the love of his life, Isabelle Dugan Murray, 59 years ago and went on to raise their family in Sea Girt. During the prime of his life he loved downhill skiing, golfing in the single digits, analyzing political and economic issues with keen intellect and embracing all God offered him. Toward the end of his life he enjoyed taking walks and relaxing on his patio watching the Yankees and having a cold Heineken. He loved to travel, and, with his wife, he visited most countries in Europe. This time last year they took an Alaskan cruise. But, his favorite memory was bringing his wife and four daughters to Ireland in the summer of 2013 to meet the relatives and visit the Old Sod. No doubt everyone has a favorite “Jerry” story.
Jeremiah is survived by his wife of 59 years, Isabelle Murray (nee Dugan). He is also survived by his four daughters, Jennifer Murray Johe, Julie Murray Shinn and her husband Kenny, Isabelle Murray Kayal and her husband, Ray, and Rose Ruane Murray, as well as his sister, Rose Marie Colombrito. He will always be remembered fondly as “Pop” by his surviving grandchildren, Meredith Johe, Rose Beattie, John Beattie, Stephanie Kayal, Isabelle Kayal, and Jeremiah Kayal and his wife Christie and their daughter, Lydia Joy.
He is predeceased by his son-in-law Peter Edwin Johe and two grandchildren, Steven Richard Johe and Robert Jeremiah Beattie. He will also be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law, Marie Fletcher and Patricia Noon and her husband Jim, and his brother-in-law James Dugan and his wife Ruth, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt, at 9:30 am on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Burial will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township, following the Mass.
