Obituary of Paul Gromosiak Gromosiak, Paul – Local historian, author and educator, passed away at Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 21, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Rimanosky) Gromosiak. He was also predeceased by brothers John Gromosiak and George (John) Gromosiak. Paul is survived by his brother Michael R. (Mary) Gromosiak of Bellbrook, OH; nephews Michael A. Gromosiak of N. Canton, OH and Gregory G. Gromosiak of Miamisburg, OH and his daughter and sons – Casey Henry, FL; Buddy Gromosiak and Drew Gromosiak of FL; niece Susan Gromosiak (Philip) Ghearing of Kettering, OH; and two great nephews Kellen M. and Tucker J. Gromosiak of N. Canton, OH. He is also survived by cousin Irene (Rodak) Rydelek of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA; cousin-in-law Patricia Rodak of Conemaugh, PA; cousins David Rodak and Michelle (Rodak) Weaver of MD; special friends Mayor Paul Dyster, Christopher Stoianoff, and Robert Scibilia in addition to his many many other close friends. Paul earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Niagara University and worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY before changing careers to teach science in the Niagara Falls public school system for 20 years. He devoted his life to local history as evidenced by the 12 books he authored on the history of Niagara Falls – a subject of which he was most passionate that led to his involvement in preserving the natural beauty of the parks throughout the Falls area. For years, Paul was dedicated toward the creation of a Niagara Experience Center to depict the prior history of the Falls. Mayor Dyster worked closely with Paul on that project as well as the Underground Railroad Museum and Interpretive Center. As a result, Paul was honored in a ceremony in the state park in July 2015 to commemorate his life’s work. Along with the proclamation from the city, county and state, a plaque was unveiled celebrating his accomplishments as an author and activist. In addition to his books, for years Paul wrote a regular newspaper column that appeared in the Buffalo News, the Niagara Gazette and the Niagara Falls Reporter. Visitation will be at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 24th Street, cor of Welch Ave, Niagara Falls, NY on Wednesday, August 8th from 4 PM – 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Make-A-Wish Foundation in Paul’s name.
