A celebration of life for Nelma R. McGuire, 86, of Wayland, will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:30 PM at the Independent Bible Church in Wayland, with Pastor Robert Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at the Wayland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2:30 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Hospice Compassus. Nelma McGuire died Monday, July 30, 2018 at Parkview Home in Wayland. Nelma Rose (Large) McGuire was born Jun 2, 1932 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Albert and Maggie Jane (Emperly) Large. She was united in marriage to Glenn McGuire on January 2, 1951 in Burlington, Iowa. Nelma worked as a waitress, cleaned houses and did babysitting. She was a volunteer at the Crowded Closet, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Mennonite Sewing Club and the Red Hat Society. She most recently attended the Independent Bible Church. Nelma was well known all over town and had many friends. Survivors include two sons: Jim (Terrie) McGuire of Clinton, Iowa, Rex (Debra) McGuire of Wayland, Iowa, 11 grandchildren: Beth, Larry, Kyndal, Chris, Ryan, Kelsey, Ricki, Andrea, April, Autumn and Krystal, and many great grandchildren. Preceding Nelma in death were her parents, her husband Glenn in 1993, three sisters: May Davis, Anne Belcher and Maxine Phipps, and one brother John Large.
