Johnny Roman Rodriguez was born in Williams, AZ on February 28, 1940. He graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1959 and spent one year at Arizona State College before joining the Navy in September of 1960. During his service with the Navy, Johnny married and began a family with his beautiful wife Vita Rodriguez (Wytewa). Johnny was honorably discharged in 1966 after spending 4 years of Active Duty in the Navy and 2 years in the National Guard. Johnny returned to Flagstaff, AZ and began his career as a meat cutter with AJ Bayless, now Bashas. He dedicated 31 years to Bashas as a meat cutter and became well known for his personable demeanor, unforgettable smile and chorizo! In fact, many of you may remember going to the Bashas on Humphreys and buying the best Chorizo in town, “Johnny’s Chorizo”. Johnny was always active in his retirement and actually started a part time job chauffeuring around his grandkids. If he wasn’t jumping up on a ladder to fix the roof, going out to the forest to chop wood or working on his house and property in Camp Verde, he was spending time with his family and friends enjoying a cold Bud Light. On June 12, 2018 Johnny suffered a stroke and passed away due to complications at 4:00pm, August 22nd. Johnny is survived by his loving children; Wildine Rodriguez, Rita Rodriguez, Marietta Rodriguez (Bobby Yazzie), Angela Rodriguez (Mike Dvorak), Juan Rodriguez (Susie) and Ramon Rodriguez (Lori). He is also blessed with 14 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel (224 S. Kendrick St, Flagstaff, AZ). A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September the 5th at 10:30am at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church (1600 E Route 66). Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Johnny Roman Rodriguez 2018.
