Obituary for Jacob Amspacher On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, Clair Amspacher, 94, passed away at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Pauline M. (Hunt) Amspacher. Clair was born April 14, 1924 in Shrewsbury to the late Guy E. and Lucy (Roser) Amspacher. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII with the 502 AAA Batallion. Clair was an auto mechanic, formerly working for the Foust and Herschner Garage in Glen Rock. He decided to open his own business in Shrewsbury, called Amspacher’s Garage. After several years at that location, he decided to build the Gulf Gas Station, just outside of Glen Rock. He and his late wife also had owned Clair and Polly’s Ice Cream Place in Glen Rock. Clair was an admirer and collector of antique cars. He was a Charter Member of SVRMARC and several other antique car organizations. Surviving him are his children, Joyce E. Myers and husband David, and Kristine Skvarna; grandchildren, Steven, Daniel, Carl and Allan Myers, Anne Yurek and Shawn Skvarna; and several great-grandchildren. Clair was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur, Ray, Vernon, Arlene, Melvin, William, and Glenn Amspacher and Allene Klinedinst; and a son-in-law, John J. Skvarna. A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 7, from 7pm to 9pm at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8 at 11am at New Hope (Fissel’s) UCC, 3426 Fissel’s Church Road, Glen Rock. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to New Hope (Fissel’s) UCC, PO Box 25, Glen Rock, PA 17327.
