Obituary for Geneva J Hilburn Church Point, LA Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point, LA for Geneva J. Hilburn, 92, who passed away July 28 at her home in Lafayette, LA. Reverend Larry Langley of Garden Baptist Church in Lafayette will conduct the service. Musical selections will be presented by long-time friend Elizabeth Langley. Visitation will be at Guidry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 30 and from 9:00 A. M. Tuesday until the service there. There will be a Graveside Service with interment at Salem Cemetery in Plain Dealing, LA at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Aug 1. Survivors include Jack B. Hilburn, Jr. of Columbus, TX and fiancée Rhonda Broussard, Judy Young and husband W. Culum Young, Jr. and Gary Hilburn and wife Gwen Meche Hilburn-all of Lafayette-and Alma Hilburn of Boerne, TX; her grandchildren: Guy Hilburn of Houston, TX and fiancée Laura Cantreras, Beth Orey and husband Kevin of Boerne, Leslie Young Gauthier of Missouri City, TX and fiancée Matt Dunn, Winston Young III and wife Mary Alciator Young, Nancy Gregory and husband Mike and Allison Graham and husband Steven Graham-all of Lafayette-and Kelli Louviere and husband Sean of Destin, FL; her great-grandchildren: Kate and Reed Orey; Olivia, Parker and Miller Gauthier; Bryson Travasos; Alexandra, Andrew and Ryan Gregory; Kennedy and Bryce Louviere and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Buford Hilburn, Sr.; her mother and father, Dolphus and Maude Johnson of Plain Dealing and four siblings. Mrs. Hilburn was born and raised in Plain Dealing. In 1955, the family moved to Church Point to work in the oil and gas industry. She spent more than 25 years working at the Acadia Parish Library in Crowley, LA and the Church Point Branch Library. Later in life, after retirement, a move to Lafayette brought her closer to her children and grandchildren. She was fondly known as “Granny”. “Granny” took great pride in baking and candy-making to please every family member and many friends. She was an artist. The amazing flower beds she cultivated told a story of how much she loved beautiful things. The yard boasted double amaryllis, begonias, sweet satsumas and enormous lemons. A favorite sport was Women’s Softball. As a young woman, she played in the Church Point League. Later she loved following the Lady Cajuns and Tigers. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Alexander for years of skillful, devoted care. Also, thank you to Mary Simon, caregiver with just the right touch.
