Salem- Gail D. Phillips, 83 of Salem, NY passed peacefully Saturday evening, August 25, 2018 in the comfort of her lifelong home with her loving family by her side. Gail was born June 11, 1935 in Greenwich, NY and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Reba (Towns) Sheffield. Gail graduated from Salem Washington Academy in 1952. Gail worked as District Treasurer in the business office of Salem Central School and later as School District Treasurer at Cambridge Central School. Above all else, Gail valued her family and friends. Her home became the gathering place for daily morning coffee and talk that many looked forward to every day… it was a hub of activity. Nothing gave her more pleasure than seeing her family and friends each day to catch up on family events. Gail and her husband Ed hosted many Rotary exchange students throughout the years, sharing their ample love and generosity with students from around the world. They have kept in contact with most of these students to this day. In addition to her parents, Gail was predeceased by a sister, Jackie (Albrecht) Gray. Gail is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Edmund J. (Eddie) Phillips whom she married June 19, 1955, a son, Michael Phillips of Saratoga Springs, NY and a daughter, Megon (Phillips) Aesch (James) of Cambridge, NY. Gail also leaves behind three siblings; Barbara Barber of Salem, Carol Rich of Shushan and Kenneth Sheffield (Rosemary) of East Greenwich, NY.; her cherished Grandchildren Emma Phillips of Huntington Beach, CA. and Sean Phillips (Julie) of Wallingford, VT.; 2 Great Grandchildren, Jaxson and Hannah; as well as many nieces and nephews. A service will be held to celebrate Gail’s life at 10 A.M Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at The Holy Cross Church, 249 Main St., Salem, NY with Jeffrey Peck, Director of Parish Life officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem. A reception will be held in the church hall following the services, everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
