Obituary for Erie S. Heermann Erie S. Heermann, 92, of Traverse City passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Munson Medical Center. Erie was born on June 11, 1926 in Detroit, MI to the late Walter and Ella (Schramm) Meech. She married the late William B. Heermann Saturday, October 14, 1950 in Detroit, at Salem Memorial Lutheran Church. They were blessed with four children, William B., Jr. (Susan), Eric, Carol (Rick) Jones, and Christine (William Banks) Petersen. Two grandchildren were added to their blessings, Matthew Aron Heermann, PhD and Emmaline Peterson. Erie was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Carol and Christine; siblings, Emerson, Lyle, Curtis, Wayne, Joyce and an infant sibling. In 1956, outgrowing their home in Detroit, the family moved to Traverse City and served their community in a retail floor covering business, called Southgate Sales. After settling into the Traverse City area Erie and Bill joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City. Erie joined The Friendly Garden of Traverse City in 1958. She served as an Emeritus member and Past President of The Friendly Garden Club of Traverse City (1965-1967) and was the Past State President of Michigan Garden Clubs. She leaves this world as a Life member of The Friendly Garden Club of Traverse City, State and National Garden Clubs. Also, Erie was a member of the P.E.O which grants scholarships for girls. Erie will fondly be remembered for her love of volunteering, entertaining friends and family and cooking. Her bright smile and love for friends, flowers and her family will be cherished by all who knew her. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Boardman Lake Glens and all the people throughout the years that have cared for Erie. Also, the family wishes to express their love and gratefulness to God for their mother and grandmother. Both Erie and Bill lived to grant them the best life they could achieve. A memorial service will be held at 1pm Friday, August 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City with the Reverend Bruce Lucas officiating. The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions in Erie’s name should be directed to Trinity Lutheran School, 1003 S. Maple St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Erie would be pleased and always encouraged education.
