Edna Mae (Vosseller) Corson, 88, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 01, 2018, completing her final stage of Alzheimer’s. Eddie was born on August 24, 1929, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Earl S. and Edith E. (Holmes) Vosseller. She was raised on a farm northeast of Waverly and graduated from the Waverly High School in 1947. Eddie then attended the Iowa State Teachers College (now U.N.I.) in Cedar Falls, graduating in 1949, with her teaching certificate and for the next two years taught in Marengo, Iowa. On June 17, 1951, Eddie married her high school sweetheart and best friend, James R. Corson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. At the time of their marriage, Jim was stationed in Northern California with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. The couple moved to Northern California where Eddie continued teaching until Jim was discharged on December 16, 1953. The couple returned to the Midwest, living the next year in St. Louis where Jim attended Mortuary College. In 1954, they moved back to Waverly and began raising their three boys, Calvin, Steven and Carter. For many years Eddie helped Jim at the funeral home, answering the phone and doing hair. In 1991, Eddie and Jim moved out of the funeral home in Waverly, building a home at the top of the hill on Bremer Road. J.R. died on August 12, 2002 and Eddie continued to live in her home at the top of the hill. On November 1, 2016, Eddie became a resident of Evergreen Arbor at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. On Friday, July 6, 2018, Eddie and her family joined the team of Cedar Valley Hospice to keep her comfortable in her final stages. Eddie was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, was a member and past-president of D.A.R., member and past president of P.E.O., past member of American Legion Auxiliary, member of the Iowa Arabian Horse Association, and the International Arabian Horse Association. The love of horses has never left her, from riding to country school on a pony to raising and caring for 20 plus pure bred and part bred Arabian horses at her Timbertop Ranch north of Waverly. To Eddie’s credit are hundreds of awards and trophies, including local, state and national honors. Eddie is survived by her three sons and their wives, Cal & Karen Corson, Steve “Duke” and Jo Corson and Carter & Barb Corson all of Waverly; 5 grandchildren, Phil Corson of Waverly, Jenny (Chris) Gidley of Waterloo, Chris Corson of Waverly, Kim Corson of Nauvoo, Alabama and Carolyn Corson (currently service with the Peace Corps) in the Kingdom of Tonga; two great grandchildren, Tristan and Brileigh Corson of Waverly; her sister-in-law, Sandra Vosseller of Marion, Iowa; three nieces, Dianne Vosseller of Edgewood, New Mexico, Deborah (Brian) Merfeld of Marion, Denise Vosseller of Cedar Rapids. Eddie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Earl and Edith Vosseller; her husband and best friend, James R. “J.R.” Corson; and her brother, Donald Earl Vosseller. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School in Waverly, with Pastors Patricia Shaw and Sandra Burroughs officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and an hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Family and friends may also call at the church on Saturday for an hour before services.
