Obituary for Dr. Onous Wells Jr. Dr. Onous John Wells, Jr. 94, passed away August 13, 2018 at Hospice Ministries. Visitation will be 9:30am-10:30am Friday at Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs. Graveside services will be 11am Friday at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Dr. Wells was born July 14, 1924 in Quitman, MS, to Onous John Wells, Sr. and Virginia Chancellor Wells. He graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS, was drafted into the Army and is a Veteran of WW II, where he served in the Pacific and entered Hiroshima after the surrender of Japan. He graduated from MS College with a BS in Chemistry and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, where he later served on the Board of Directors He served as a Southern Baptist Minister of Music for several years until being accepted to Dental School at the University of Louisville where he graduated in 1959. He and his wife returned to Jackson and started a dental practice and was active in the Kiwanis Club and served as president, was on the Jackson Symphony Board, and served as interim Music Director in many churches and continued to perform solos at his home church as long as he was able. He retired and moved to Crystal Springs, MS in 1989 and after a short time started another dental practice and continued to practice until age 87. His hobbies over the years included flying, which he gave up at age 68, he played golf from college days until age 93. He was preceded by his wife one day before their 67th anniversary, Thelma Leon Wells; his parents, and a brother, Billy Wells. He is survived by his children, Larry C. Wells (Donna), John Wells III (Teresa), and Frank B. Wells (Jayne); brother, Dr. Marion Wells (Tommie); sister, Betty Swindle (Billy); 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
