Cleon J. Peters, 90, of 76 Branch Hill Rd., Heath, died Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield. He was born in Heath on November 7, 1927 the son of Leon and Phillipine (Lively) Peters. He served with the United States Army during WWII. He was married to the former Teresa Galipo on April 25, 1953 together for 65 years. From 1972 to 1979 he and his wife owned and operated Peters General Store in Heath. He had also worked at Snow’s Ice Cream in Greenfield and for many years was a school bus driver in the local area. He was a caretaker for local homes as well. He is survived by his wife Teresa, a daughter Crystal (Robert) Griswold of Halifax, VT, a foster son Ed Croteau of Heath, a brother John (Valeda) Peters of Colrain, six sisters; Janette Emond, Evelyn Lamay, Pauline (Loring) Stevenson, Bea (Robert) Drew, Teresa (Robert) Hicks, and Sylvia Williams, 2 grandchildren Thomas and Holly Griswold, six foster grandchildren, two great grandchildren Brooklynn Russell and Clare Griswold, and son-in-law Ken Valego of Chicopee. He was predeceased by a son Michael Peters, his foster daughter Sheryl Valego, 2 brothers Nelson and Leon Peters and three sisters Lucille Annear, Marie Orr and Leona Peters. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 20 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 34 Monroe Ave., Shelburne Falls. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. It is suggested memorial donations be made to the Heath Agricultural Society, PO Box 10, Heath, MA 01346
