Obituary for Buddy Stewart HALTOM CITY – Kenneth Wayne Stewart “Buddy”, 82, gained his wings on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. while at home surrounded by his family Dr. Larry Sanders will be officiating the funeral. Pallbearers will be Larry Stewart, Dean Bailey, Travis Burgett, Aaron Cox, Jordan Beams, Stewart Burgett and Jonny Beams. Buddy was born Sept. 25, 1935 in Fort Worth to Stanley and Mabel Stewart. Buddy attended Carter-Riverside High School before joining the United States Marine Corps when he was just 16 years old. He was serving his country in the Korean War on his 17th birthday. He loved to tell family and friends about his times as a Marine. Boxing, the beautiful places he was stationed, like Okinawa, practical jokes he and his fellow Marines would play and of his love of the USMC. While home on leave, he spotted, in his words, “the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on” while she was working as a carhop. Buddy and his sweetie, Judy, exchanged sweet letters while he finished his duty and when his service was complete the two were married on April 6h, 1957. After his service, Buddy was trained and worked as a barber while the two started their family. Buddy and Judy made their family home in Haltom City and had three beloved children, Tammy, Kenny, and Shelly. The family of five would spend many summers and weekends at their family farm in Dodd City, Texas where they made many wonderful family memories. Buddy accepted a position on the line at General Motors in Arlington in 1965. He believed in safe working environments, fair pay and benefits for all employees and worked his way up from Committeeman to President of UAW Local 276. After working 32 years he retired after serving nine years as the President of Local 276, where he proudly served the workers at the GM Plant in Arlington. Buddy raced and bred award-winning Homing Pigeons, was a very artistic woodworker, gardener and an avid Harley rider, among many other hobbies. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family in the beautiful, lush backyard that he lovingly tending to. The family enjoyed his fresh fruits and vegetables, farm fresh eggs and his great-grandchildren especially loved swimming in the beautiful pool he maintained and frog hunting in his backyard pond with their “T-Daddy”. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Corky and Edward Stewart; his sister, Rosemary Stewart; and his beloved son, Kenny. Buddy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy; daughters, Tammy Lewis and Shelly Burgett; grandchildren, Tiffany Cox, Katti Burgett, Cortany Beams and Stewart Burgett;brother, Larry Stewart; and his two most cherished great-grandchildren, Jonny Beams and Aaryn-Nicole Cox.
