Arthur W. “Bill” Briggs, Sr., 76, of Taneytown, formerly of Taylorsville, passed away on Saturday, July 28 at the Dove House in Westminster. Bill was born on August 31, 1941 in Baltimore to the late Lloyd and Molly Briggs. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Diane. He is also survived by his three children; son Billy Briggs, Jr. of Taylorsville, son Bobby Briggs of Greeley, CO and daughter Kimberly Ann Gruver and husband Rick, of York, PA. Surviving in addition are brothers-in-law and their wives Buddy and Irene Chaney, Mike and Barbara Chaney, George Chaney, Kevin and Brenda Chaney; sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Roger Walters, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by his dear friends Wesley Thomas and Mike and Carol Wilhelm. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Lloyd O. Briggs, Jr. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1965. He was a hard- working man. He was a carpenter, starting at the age of 15 and retiring at the age of 65. He enjoyed coin collecting and was a leather craftsman. Bill sold his leather work at the Carroll County Ag Center in Westminster for many years. Bill was a good man and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. His family will receive visitors on Thursday, August 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A time of sharing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Lake View Memorial Park.
