Arthur J Szczepkowski October 25 1925 August 8 2018 (age 92)

Arthur J. Szczepkowski, 92, of Grand Junction, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. He was born October 25, 1925 to Adam and Sophie (Lesnikowski) Szczepkowski in Indiana Harbor, Indiana. Arthur met Theresa “Tess” Nowicki when they both worked at Nash-Kelvinator and were married on October 15, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He later worked at Garlock Packing, Link Belt and then as a supervisor in the Engineering department at Pullman Standard in Chicago for many years. He was a skilled wood worker and loved the lake and his pontoon boat. Arthur was a proud Chicago Cubs fan and on his 91st birthday finally saw his Cubbies get into and go on to win the World Series. He also liked football and watching the Chicago Bears. Arthur enjoyed family gatherings, listening to music, watching old westerns and comedies and was known for building his elaborate Christmas Village which he proudly displayed in his home every year. He had a good sense of humor which he had to the end. His family was his life. He was much loved and will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses Ann (Stan) Szpejnowski, Alfred (Esther) Szczepkowski , Albin (Mary) Szczepkowski, Richard (Vivian) Szczepkowski, and Edward Szczepkowski. Arthur is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa Szczepkowski, children – Mark (Wanda) Szczepkowski of Grand Junction, and Laura Szczepkowski of Cedar Lake, Indiana, grandchildren – Jason (Randi) Szczepkowski of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Carrie (Scott) Earl of Kalamazoo, two great grandchildren – Nadiya and Ishara, and siblings – Adeline (Robert) Dobis and Sophie Kluever, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 10:00 am Central Time at Holy Name Catholic Church with Mass following at noon. Holy Name Catholic Church is located at 11000 W. 133rd Avenue, Cedar Lake, Indiana. Arthur will be laid to rest at a later date at the Veterans Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois. Contributions may be made in Art’s memory to Allegan Wings of Hope Hospice or Parkinson’s Foundation.
