Surrounded by his family in the Evansville home he built, Virgil Ray Lutz passed peacefully into Jesus’ arms Friday morning after a full life of 85 years. Not one for formal church, Virgil attended Joel Olsteen’s church from the comfort of his recliner each Sunday and would routinely repeat the sinner’s prayer aloud. Virgil… Read More » served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war aboard the U.S.S. Osbourne which was hit by shore fire while he was aboard. Virgil worked at Whirpool for some 40 years retiring as a Superintendant, and then Robinson Painting for 20 years. Virgil enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Stampfli (Don-surviving), and brother Donald Lutz (Dorothy-surviving). He is survived by his faithful wife of 63 years Mary (DeHaven) Lutz; children Robert Lutz (Linda), Tony Lutz, Russell DeHaven, Leah Puckett (Marty), Kyle Lutz (Amber); grandchildren Cameron Lutz, Sarah Lutz, Chris Dehaven, Aaron DeHaven, Nicholas DeHaven, Emma Puckett, Landon Lutz, and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell Lutz. Visitation will be held at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, Monday, July 2 from 9:00AM until 1:00PM with Funeral immediately following at 1:00PM. Burial services will be held at Locust Hill Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cathedral of Praise Church, 3006 Mesker Park Dr, Evansville, IN 47720, which Virgil supported, or Heritage Hospice, 1202 W Buena Vista Rd # 107, Evansville, IN 47710, which was a blessing to the family in his final days.
