Norma Gray Broome, also affectionately known as Grannie, entered life triumphant on July 16 at the age of 95.
Born on October 8, 1922 in Chester County, she was the daughter of the late Zeb and Ola Gray.She was married for over seventy years to the late Blair W. Broome.Together they left an amazing legacy of love for family and friends.
They had 3 daughters, Anne (Mike) Maginn, Debbie Shealy, and Tina Jackson, who were lovingly raised with a strong Christian foundation and a belief in the value of education.Norma, along with her late husband Blair, ran an independent grocery store for over thirty-five years.She was a highly skilled seamstress, who loved making clothes for her family, creating crafts and toys for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and sewing beautiful quilts that are family treasures.Playing cards was a favorite pastime, and she especially loved playing bridge.She also enjoyed playing golf in her younger years and took pride in having won the ladies golf championship at the Republic Golf Course.
Norma was a member of Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church, where she was a founding member of the Lamplighters Class.She cared about others and did not hesitate to help guide someone on the path of life with her wisdom of experience.
In addition to her three daughters, she is survived by 7 grandchildren:Chuck (Natalie) Jackson of Baton Rouge, LA; Cathy (John) Hobbes of Phoenix, AZ; Chris (Rhonda) Jackson of Andersonville, TN; Matthew (Kara) Shealy of Enoree, SC; Lorianne (Jeff) Riggin of Newberry, SC; Kristen Jackson of Atlanta, GA; and Lauren Jackson of Nashville, TN;and 9 great grandchildren: Ashley (Derek) Wittneben of Phoenix, AZ; Joseph Hobbes of Raleigh, NC; William, Wade, and Wesley Jackson of Baton Rouge, LA; Chandler Jackson of Andersonville, TN; Brayden and Aubrey Shealy of Enoree, SC; and Grant Riggin of Newberry, SC.She was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Buddy Jackson and Albert Shealy.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at 2 pm on Friday, July 20 at Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church in Great Falls. Rev. John Paul Sellars and Rev. David Ussery will preside.Before the service, the family will receive friends at 1 pm in the Fellowship Hall.Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls.Pall bearers are grandsons: Chuck Jackson, Chris Jackson, Matthew Shealy, and Jeff Riggin; great grandson: Joseph Hobbes; and dear family friend: Alex Walters.
