Raymond J Maurer 1919 2018

Obituary for Raymond Maurer Ray Maurer, 99, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. Born in Kenosha on May 1, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Ann (Schunemann) Maurer. He shared his childhood with his two sisters, Marie (Gemig) and Rita (Carlson) and four brothers, Dick, John, Larry and Len. On November 4, 1941, he married Mildred Galambos who preceded him in death on November 21, 1994. He later married Helen Struhart in 1996 who preceded him in death on May 28, 2011. Ray was a child of the Great Depression and never forgot the value of a helping hand. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a machinist by trade, progressing from the shop floor to Director of Sales for the Acme-Gridley Machine Corporation. Ray was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating throughout his life. He also enjoyed wood working and created dozens of bird houses that he shared with family and friends. More than anything else, Ray was a people person who used his quick wit and low-pitched resonating voice to engage others in conversation whenever the opportunity presented itself. He leaves behind his brothers, John (Arlene) Maurer and Larry (Marion) Maurer; sister-in-law, Lou Maurer; and five generations of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Marie & Ralph Gemig, Rita & Dale Carlson, Dick & Gloria Maurer, and Len Maurer. Ray wanted to express special thanks to nephews Art Maurer and Don Gemig for their help through his later years. Ray’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home for all their help and compassion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1st, at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. George Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
