Paul Ralph Strasser 2018

Paul Ralph Strauser, age 91, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville, Iowa. Paul was born on March 13, 1927, in Clarksville, the son of Ralph and Alida (Jackson) Strauser. He was raised in Clarksville and attended the Clarksville High School. Paul then entered the United States Navy, where he did his basic training in Chicago, preparing for the invasion of Japan. He was on his way to Japan, during WWII, when the atomic bomb ended the war. On March 4, 1948, Paul was united in marriage to Henerena Henrichs at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Butler Center, Iowa. The couple lived northeast of Clarksville for a time then moved to Shell Rock where he has lived in the same neighborhood for the last 70 years. During his life Paul worked as a Machinist for Boeing in Kansas for a short time and for Shield Bantam Crane in Waverly retiring in the late 1980’s. Paul was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville where he taught Sunday School, and a member of the Men’s Gospel Choir in Texas. He loved gardening, fishing, and wintering in Texas, however, his greatest enjoyment was time with family. Paul’s memory is honored by: special friend, Rose Glanville of Shell Rock; five children, Dan (Dianna) Strauser of Elgin, Illinois, Jo (Mike) Powelka of Janesville, Iowa, Mary (Glen) Rocca of Sumner, Iowa, Jean (Mike) Osborn of Walker, Minnesota, and Dave Strauser of Clarksville; nine grandchildren, Adrian Strauser, Aaron Strauser, Mike Powelka, Matt Powelka, Melissa Getz, Ben Osborn, Becky Osborn, Carly Strauser, and Courtney Strauser; and eleven great-grandchildren, Hudson, Lincoln, Jackson, Quinton, Landry, Linden Paul, Gabriel, Etta Rose, Traver, Beatrix Henerena, and Ansel. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Henerena on July 13, 2001; three brothers, Lawrence, Bill, and Clyde Strauser; and three sisters, Alice McCalley, Lorraine Jacobs, and Marlene Thompson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6, at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock with Avery-Slight American Legion Post #393 of Shell Rock giving honors. Memorials may be directed to Paul’s family for future designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
