The Kasper family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Milton passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 at Bec’s Blessing in Serbin. Friedrich Milton Kasper was born April 22, 1926, in Giddings, Texas, the son of Otto Kasper and Frieda (Weise) Kasper. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Serbin on May 2, 1926, by Rev. Herman Schmidt. He confirmed his faith on March 17, 1940, also at St. Paul, Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. His confirmation verse was, in German, Genesis 15:1, “Do not be afraid. I am your shield, your very great reward.” He grew up in the Hills community helping his family with the farming and cattle raising. On April 11, 1948, he married Edna Umlang at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They started their lives together as farmers, but after two years they moved to Houston where Milton worked for Curtis Candy Company. When the opportunity arose for a transfer to Giddings, he took it. He worked as the “Candy Man” for 35 years, first working for Curtis Candy and then later as an independent candy distributor. Together Milton and Edna raised their five children, Marian, Judy, Lois, Stephen and Carol. Milton’s faith in God was an important part of his life. He served his church as President of the congregation, Elder, Sunday school teacher and was an active member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League. Daily devotions and listening to The Lutheran Hour every Sunday continued until his Creator took him to be with Him in Heaven. Milton loved the farm and his family. He took great pride in keeping his place free of cactus and mesquites. Some of his greatest joys were taking the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for hayrides to feed the cattle at Christmas gatherings and other family get-togethers. Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Frieda Kasper; his wife, Edna; three sisters, Frances Mertink Durrow and her husbands, Herbert Mertink and Al Durrow, Louise Schautschick and her husband Alfred, and Lillian Theis and her husband Alfred; two brothers: Edward and his wife Ruby, and Calvin and his wife Ruth, and also two sisters and one brother as infants; one great-grandchild, Timothy Wiederhold, and one son-in-law, August Wolff. Milton is survived by one sister, Junelle Nittsche and her husband Herbert of Houston; his children, Marian and husband Jack Wiederhold of Serbin, Judy and husband Ray Wilke of Norfolk, Nebraska, Lois and husband Dennis Teinert of Round Rock, Stephen and wife Nancy of Giddings, and Carol and husband Tom Dove of Round Rock. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbears will be Nathan Wiederhold, Shawn Kasper, Kyle Kasper, William Sherrerd, Dennis Murphy, Rick Osborne, Mac Linnan, Shayne Barr, and Paul Hailes. Honorary pallbearers will be Lydia Wiederhold, Rachel Sherrerd, Leah Murphy, Elizabeth Osborne, Laura Teinert, Tiffany Linan, Laurie Kasper, Amber Barr and Erica Hailes.
