Mary Katheryn Gibbs, 96, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at Orchard View in Columbus, GA. A service will be held 3pm Monday, July 30, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Columbus with Pastor Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will greet friends after the service. Burial will be private at Parkhill Cemetery. Mrs. Gibbs was born in Greeneville, TN to the late Dixon and Alta Matthews. She married in 1940 and became a permanent resident of Columbus in 1945. She and her husband worked together in their business, Southern Distributors. Always mindful of serving others she volunteered at St. Francis and delivered food with Meals on Wheels. Her faithfulness to service was based on her Faith in Jesus. She worked with her husband to establish Victory Mission and was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Kenneth Gibbs, sister Naomi Matthew and twin-brother, SSGT Kenneth D. Matthews. She is survived by her children, Gloria Standard husband Bill of Toccoa, GA, Mary Elizabeth Stevenson husband Alan of Green Cove Springs, FL and Kenneth Gibbs, Jr. wife Sally of Fountain Hills, AZ; grandchildren, Lisa Sunderland, Lori Cooper, Ginger Stevenson, Fletcher Stevenson, Grant Standard, Kenneth Gibbs III and Kevin Gibbs; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several extended family members and many caring friends.
