Kanda Kay (McConnell) Walden, 75 of Princeton passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. She was born April 20, 1943 in Princeton to James and Mary (Land) McConnell. Kanda had lived in rural Princeton most of her life. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at Gibson General Hospital before serving as the Gibson County Public Health Nurse for many years before her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, was a founding member of the Gibson County Master Gardeners and she was a current member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, the Sew-it-Seams Home Ec. Club and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid gardener and reader and enjoyed playing Bunko every month with her friends. She participated in many different volunteer programs throughout the area, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s participate in their activities, was concerned about understanding and preserving history, education and nature through activities like maintaining a Monarch Waystation and starting a chess club for kids. She was also a strong supporter of great local organizations like Lyles Station, the Women’s Fund of Gibson County, the Francisco School Library, and the annual 4th Grade Farm Fair. Kanda is survived by her children, Nora Nixon (Brad), James Walden (Toni) and Beth Walden (Brenda); sister, Becky Richeson and brother, Michael McConnell (Phyllis); 8 grandchildren, Lacey, Logan and Miranda Nixon, Ian, Drew, Levi and Claire Walden and Gavin Walden; and many nieces and nephews. Kanda was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Richard McConnell. Memorial services will be at the Fairview Presbyterian Church rural Princeton on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Holland officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening and from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday morning at the Fairview Presbyterian Church.
