Obituary for Mr. Daniel P. (Danny) “Duke” Hiten Daniel Paul (Danny) “Duke” Hiten, 74, of Jonesville, Indiana, passed from this life at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Hiten retired from Cummins Engine Company after over 30 years of service. Many who knew Mr. Hiten addressed him as Danny or Duke, as he was a huge fan of John Wayne. Mr. Hiten was an avid fisherman and a collector and admirer of antiques. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Hiten was born December 27, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Ida May Thompson Hiten and Alfred M. “Buck” Hiten. He married Savonna “Sue” Macy when he was 20 years old. Mr. Hiten is survived by his son, Kevin Hiten of Jonesville; daughters, Kimberly Sue Staley, Angela Gale Shepherd, and Cheryl Ann Baldwin, all of Columbus; a brother, Bill Young of Columbus; grandchildren, Dustin, Andrew, and Joseph Hiten, Samantha Staley, Melinda Case, Jeramy and Joshua Durham, Nathan, Justin, and Brandon Shepherd, Chelsea Benefiel, Derek and Makayla Baldwin, and Jacob and Bethany VonFange; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Shaley, Vincent, Lennoxx, Sierra, Jude, Elia, Jaydon, Daisy, Holden, Haylie, Joseph, Addalynn, and Aurora. Mr. Hiten was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Ping; his father, Alfred M. “Buck” Hiten; his wife, Savonna “Sue” Hiten; a brother, Robert Thompson; and children, Denneil “Delby” Hiten and Paula (Durham) Kirvan. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Reverend Glenn Poynter officiating. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Mr. Hiten will be laid to rest next to his wife at Daugherty Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hiten family to help defray the expense for the headstone for Mr. and Mrs. Hiten; please make checks payable to Angela Shepherd.
