Charles Edward Hampton, Sr., 79, of Indianapolis passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018. He was born on September 24, 1938 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the late Herschel Clyde and Zelapha Delora (Fishburn) Hampton. Charles served in the United States Airforce and later retired from Conrail after 25 years as a brakeman and welder. He loved to shoot pool, bowl and fish. Survivors include his children, Johnie E. Layton-Chavez (Juan), Charles E. Hampton, Jr. (Lavada), Danny D. Hampton and Delora M. Crossley (Matthew); and 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy O’Neil (Lamberson) Hampton; children, Michael O. Hampton and Tammy D. Whitfield; and siblings, Clyde Hampton and Jean Hampton. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St. A service will follow at 7 p.m. with Martin Betzner officiating. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will take place in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
