Obituary for Albert J. Lahr GENEVA – Albert J. Lahr, 94, of Geneva passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 following an extended illness. Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, on Friday August 24, 2018, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Al was born in Flushing, New York to the late Albert and Elsie Rudolph Lahr and attended schools in Flushing and Bayside, NY. He graduated from Mount Herman School in 1942 where he was active on the football and track teams. He attended Gettysburg College until Pearl Harbor and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1942. He served on two ships, the USS New York and the USS Blue where he was a gunner’s mate and received six stars for major campaigns and the Philippines Liberation. After the war, he attended Hobart College where he graduated in 1948. He was a varsity football player, a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, selected to the Hobart Junior Class Honor Society, chimera. He worked at several companies where eventually he and AL King purchased a company and named it Antical Chemical Co., which he later sold to H.B. Fuller and worked for them until his retirement. He also taught at Cornell University where he contributed on sanitation procedures. He was a former president of the NYS Milk and Sanitizer Association and other organizations affiliated with the sanitation business. Al loved the outdoors and hunting, where he had bird dogs and hunting waterfowl and other animals. He was a former member of the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hobart Statesman Athletic Association, and the Canandaigua Duck Hunters Association. Surviving are his children: Steven (Cathy) Lahr of Geneva, Craig (Cathy Vaughn) Lahr of Fairport, and Jennifer Lahr of Rotunda, FL; his step-daughter, Barbara (Santo) LiDestri of Geneva; and four nieces: Patricia Hill Ziegler of MA, Susan Hill McMahon of MA, Kathy Hill Wade of NM, and Barbara Hill of OR.
