Shirley Mae Huffman 1955 2018

Obituary of Shirley Huffman Shirley Mae Huffman “Grammie” died peacefully in her home on May 29 at the age of 63. Shirley is survived by her children, Amy Hodak, of Chapel Hill, NC and Barry Newman of Lowell, NC. The apples of her eye were her two grandchildren, Peyton and Carson Hodak. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Barry Lee Huffman. Born in Virginia Beach in 1955, Shirley found herself at the center of a very large extended family. Her cousins were her family, friends, and partners in crime. Shirley married and had two children she adored. After Shirley’s mother passed away, she moved to North Carolina, soon finding her soul mate in Barry Lee Huffman. After losing Barry, Shirley moved to Chapel Hill with her daughter and grandchildren, and there, the legend of Grammie was formed. Shirley attended every cheer competition, field day, recital, or soccer game that her grandchildren participated in, an enthusiastic supporter of the team. Known for her loud cheers, quick smile, and tight hugs, everyone was happy to see Grammie on the sidelines. Everyone who came into Shirley’s kitchen was welcomed with a smile, and left with full tummies, and big hugs, knowing they were loved and that they should come back soon. She was loved by many and Grammie to all. A celebration of life will be held at her home on Saturday, June 2 at 3:00. We will share stories, food, and tight hugs, just the way Shirley would have wanted it. 105 Fieldstone Court, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
