Obituary for Sandra Muckelston Sandi was born June 23, 1944, to Oren (Muck) and Alyce Muckelston in Lewistown, Montana. She peacefully passed away on July 7, 2017, of natural causes. After graduating from Fergus County High School in 1962, she graduated with honors from Rocky Mountain College in Billings with degrees in both English and Political Science and a minor in Religion. Sandi moved to Boston after graduating from Rocky to work at Harvard University. She decided to become a lawyer and moved to Missoula to earn her degree from the University of Montana. One of her most memorable endeavors while attending U of M was to be chosen to staff the Montana Constitutional Convention. The experience stayed with her throughout her life. She served as both a professor and acting Dean of the U of M. Her career leads her, to becoming the Chief Legal Counsel for the Dept. of Health and Environmental Sciences for the State of Montana. Her next adventures lead her to the State of Oregon where she worked for the Dept. of Energy and Dept. of Water Resources. She loved Oregon and Washington and lived there for some time. She supervised environmental and permitting reviews for the Hermiston Power Project in Hermiston, Oregon. She had an enviable career and always pushed herself to be the best. She loved the outdoors; her many Fur Babies; reading; researching; life- long learning; her family and friends; flowers; a good debate; and helping others. She came to live with her sister as she dealt with various health issues. She will be sorely missed. Sandi is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Sheryle (Sherri) Shandy of Billings, her niece, Shawna Shandy of Vancouver, Washington, an aunt Berniece Stewart of Waverly, Illinois, several cousins, many friends, and her two Fur Babies, Smudge and Charlie. A Celebration of Sandi’s Life will be held on her birthday, June 23, 2018, in the Sapphire Room of the Yogo Inn in Lewistown, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. with burial of her ashes with her parents to follow at the Lewistown City Cemetery.
