Order Flowers Life Story for Robert “Bob” Dickens Kingsport – Mr. Robert “Bob” Dickens, 91, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Baysmont in Kingsport. Bob was born in Sarasota, FL. on October 3, 1926 and moved to Kingsport at an early age. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He enlisted in the Navy in June, 1944. He served on the USS Atlanta in the Pacific theater. He was discharged from the Navy in June, 1946. After his military service, he belonged to the Navy reserve for many years. Bob worked at Blue Ridge Glass for almost 10 years. He joined the Kingsport Police Department in 1957 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1988. Bob was active in the V.F.W. until declining health prevented him from attending the meetings. He volunteered at the V.A. in Johnson City, TN. for over 15 years. He was 32nd degree Mason and was also a Shriner. He helped transport many children to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati, OH. Bob enjoyed reading his mystery novels and worked crossword puzzles every day. Bob’s big smile and good conversations will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his wife; Sarah Egan Dickens, an infant son; James E. Dickens, his parents; Bert and Hannah Doran Dickens and a brother; Hubert Dickens.
