Obituary for Mary File Mary File, age 71, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Private Graveside Services will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Mary Joanne File was born on August 8, 1946 in Hartley, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Loretta (Schroder) Thiessen. She lived her youth and attended school in the Okoboji and Everly, Iowa, area, graduating from the Everly High School. She was united in marriage to Thomas File of Sheldon, Iowa on August 18, 1973 in Gaza, Iowa. Thomas served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. They both moved to El Paso, Texas and then back to Germany. In the mid 1980’s they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. Mary was a dietitian for the Sheldon Hospital for many years before retiring. Thomas passed away in November of 2009. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends, spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. The family home was the gathering place for holidays and special times. Mary enjoyed baking, especially banana bread and bread pudding. She will be remembered as a very loving and caring person with a warm personality. She passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Lori Thiessen of Sheldon, IA and her son, Gage Butler, Brandi Friedrichs of Mankato, MN and her children, Erin File and son Riddick, Kayley Friedrichs and Brooklynn Butler; one brother, James Thiessen of Hartley, IA; one sister, Nora Steelinger of Spencer, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas File; her parents and one brother.
