Obituary of Leslie Whitmer Leslie E. Whitmer, 91, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the combined units of the V.F.W. Post 1565 and the American Legion Post #27. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Adventure Christian Community Church on Tipton Road. Visitation for Leslie will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Leslie’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Leslie Edward Whitmer was born on May 24, 1927 in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of Cyril Edward and Lillian M. (Miller) Whitmer. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Force from 1945-1947. On March 8, 1954, Leslie was united in marriage to Walyne Kay Rock and later divorced. He later married Ruth Louise Figg on August 12, 1990 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Leslie had retired from Bandag on May 1, 1987. He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ and enjoyed farming, gardening and planting things, bird watching and his train sets. Leslie will be deeply missed by his son, Jeffrey (Joy) Whitmer of Eldridge; daughter, Angela Whitmer and fiancé, Skeet Cloyd Lewis, III of Muscatine; step daughters, Susan Connor and Julie (Myron) Paulson all of Wilton; daughter-in-law, Pat Whitmer of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; son, Leslie Eugene Whitmer; grandson, Michael Whitmer; granddaughters, Katrina Ann-Lousie Hill and Jessica May Nyenhuis Young; sisters, Margaret Eiselstein and Minnie Kroeger and brother, Everett Whitmer.
