Durham – Kathy LaRue Barber, 67, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at her home after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was a native of Alamance County and longtime resident of Durham, NC. Kathy retired as Director of Nursing for Duke Home Health; and formerly worked at Watts Hospital and Durham Regional Medical Center. She touched many lives over the years as… Read More » a nurse with her compassionate and caring heart for her patients and formed a large extended family with her sisterhood of fellow nurses. She had a special love for animals and rescued many beloved dogs and cats throughout her lifetime. Kathy was a loving sister, aunt and great aunt to her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sisters, Susan Barber of Burlington and Tami Ramirez and husband, Ernesto of Elon; a niece, Rachel Ramirez; a great niece and great nephew whom she adored, Hailey Ramirez-Kimrey and Aidan Ramirez-Kimrey; her supportive and loving Watt’s “sisters” and her dearly loved canine companion, “Puddin”. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Lewis and Rachel Mae Parrish Barber. The burial will take place on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Gibsonville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to your favorite animal charity or rescue.
