Mrs. Kathryn F. (Tattersall) Somers, age 85, of Chapin, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 11, 2018, from complications of dementia. Kathryn was born on November 10, 1932 in Owosso, the daughter of Oliver and Rosa (Runyan) Tattersall. Kathryn married Ted Somers, Jr., on July 16, 1950, raised nine children, and was a devoted housewife. She resided on their farm in the area all her life. Kathryn and her husband made pure maple syrup for 20 years, and she was a member of the Chapin United Methodist Church for 68 years. She was a member of the Mid-State Mothers of Twins Club and volunteered collecting donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was a caring, strong, and loving woman who always put others first before herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family extends a special thank you to our sister Michele for the phenomenal care given to mom as her primary caregiver for the past 10+ years which allowed Mom to be with us. The family would also like to thank Memorial Healthcare Home Health and Hospice of Owosso for their care and compassion for our mother and our family. Kathryn is survived by her children: Larry Somers of Oakley, Marvin Somers of Oakley, Nora Spencer (Randy Limbaugh) of Henderson, Sarah (Bob) Hobson of AuGres, Wayne (Andrea) Somers of Henderson, Michele (Ed) Hart of Henderson, Marilyn (Kurt) Kantzer of Rochester Hills, and Margaret (Ross) Duford of Midland; daughter-in-law Rebecca Robinette of Chesaning, 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great-grandchildren, brother Gerald Tattersall of Henderson, sister Carlita Hoornstra of Chesaning, sister-in-law Joann Tattersall of Durand, and many nieces and nephews. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years Ted Somers, Jr.; son: William Somers; grandson: Brian Somers; brothers: Melvin, Kenny, Leonard, and LaVerne Tattersall; sister: Olive (Harry “Pete”) Dumond; brother-in-law: John Hoornstra; and brother-in-law: Robert (Arlene) Somers. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the Smith Family Funeral Homes in Elsie. Pastor Charlene Wagner will officiate with burial to take place in the Ridge Road Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
