John L. Radka, age 96, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 23, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Wilmington, DE, John was the son of the late Leon and Stella Radka. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School Class of 1941. John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. Before retiring in 1983, he was a draftsman for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 37 years. John had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Wilmington Turners Club. In earlier years, John enjoyed weightlifting and playing basketball at the YMCA. He loved to go dancing with his wife Barbara. After retiring, John enjoyed traveling with Barbara from taking road trips all over the United States to cruises to other countries. John was also an avid reader with quite an extensive book collection. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on his cars. John was an Eagles Fan. He also enjoyed going shopping and doing price comparisons for the deals he was getting. John will be remembered as a devoted family man, who treasured the summer family tradition of going to the beach in Ocean City, MD. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was thrilled to get to see his first great grandchild. John had a loving, yet strong willed spirit. John was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanette (Covelli) Radka, and his second wife, Barbara (Jones) Manley Radka; as well as his step-daughter, Judy McCormack. He is survived by his sons, James M. Radka (Kathy), Paul J. Radka, and Leon Radka; his grandchildren, Jason Radka (Patricia), Samantha McCool (Christopher), Erik Radka (Shoshana), and Kaitlyn, Quinn and Mikaela Radka; his great granddaughter, Alexandra Radka and one great granddaughter on the way; his brother, Eugene Radka (Gloria); and his sisters, Delores Feeney and Irene Annone. John is also survived by his step-children, Tom Manley (Mary), Gerald Manley (Colleen), Nancy Manley and Frederick Manley and their families. Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, June 29 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, #101, Newark, DE 19713 or the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, #205, New Castle, DE 19720.
