Ocala, FL – John Joseph Kerrigan Sr., 85, formerly of Beverly Farms, beloved husband of Joan Marie (Hodgdon) Kerrigan, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Florida. Son of the late Michael Francis Kerrigan, Sr. and the late Bridget Mary Butler of Ireland, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17, retiring with the rank of Technical Staff Sargent on June 30, 1973. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. John graduated from Fisher College in 1980 and attended the Social Services… Read More » Program at Salem State University in 1981. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991. Mr. Kerrigan was a member of the Michael J. Cadigan Legion Post 46 and served as Commander in 1985. He was also a member of the Greycroft Club of Beverly for over 40 years. While serving as President of the Greycroft Club, he implemented several programs that benefited and grew their membership, such as dances, fishing outings, and their softball team, which he also coached. John was devoted to his family and was a strong advocate for veterans. He was a kind and generous man who was known for helping others. He was an avid sports fan and was a strong supporter of the Naval Academy football team, as well as the New England Patriots and New York Yankees. Greatly admired, he will be eternally loved and missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children from a previous marriage, Theresa Kerrigan of Boston, Michelle Kerrigan of Amesbury, John Joseph Kerrigan, Jr. and his wife Amy of North Carolina and Janet Kerrigan of Braintree, stepchildren, Michael Bulger of Jacksonville, FL and Michelle Dupuis of Peabody and his sister, Mary Wright of Dorchester. He was the proud grandfather of 3 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, 1 great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was pre- deceased by his sister, Margaret King and brother, Michael Frances Kerrigan Jr. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 672 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, Friday, June 22, 2018 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. Burial in the Beverly Farms Cemetery.
