James W. Conover, Sr., 83, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Born in Trenton, NJ, Mr. Conover was a lifelong resident of Hamilton Township. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School West, Class of 1953 and later graduated from Rider University, where he received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. He was very active in sports during his high school and college years. While attending Rider University, he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Mr. Conover retired from the State of New Jersey, Division of Taxation after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service and Acting Chief of Office of Research and Statistics. Mr. Conover was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish where he enjoyed being a member of the Senior Club #2. He spent 8 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was a member of the American Legion Post #1000. He was a former member of the Hamilton Township Parks and Recreation Committee and enjoyed bowling in the Civil Service Bowling League for many years. Most of all, Mr. Conover loved spending time with his family and playing cards with friends. Predeceased by his parents, Harold, Sr. and Thelma (Lutz) Conover; his brothers, Harold, Jr. and John A. Conover, Sr.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Maniewicz; his brother-in-law, Frank Davis; and his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Conover and Judith Ann Hunt; he is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lorraine M. (Maniewicz) Conover; his daughter, Carolyn Fletcher and her husband, Patrick; his son, James W. Conover, Jr.; his grandchildren, Grant and Hayley Fletcher; his brother-in-law, Richard Hunt; his sister-in-law, Rose Marie Davis; and his many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church, 3816 East State Street Ext., Hamilton, NJ. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Conover’s memory to the Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 248 East Chestnut Hill Road, Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
