Evelyn Cook Townsend, 86, of Vale, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home. Born in Catawba County, on June 10, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Marshall Cook and Minnie Tallent Cook. She was a homemaker and member of Beulah Baptist Church. In addition to parents she was preceded by her husband, John Henry Townsend, son, Samuel “Sam” Cook; five brothers, Ed Cook, Reid Cook, Arnie Cook, Grady Cook and Fred Cook; and two sisters, Annie Lail and Lela Houser. She… Read More » is survived by four sons, William Bridges and wife, Rebecca of Hickory, Robert Townsend and fiancée, Sandra of Lawndale; Johnny Bridges, Sr. of Vale, and Keith Townsend and wife, Jennifer of Hickory; two brothers, Jessie Cook of Hickory, and Cullen Joe Cook of Lincoln County; three sisters, Junie Rhoney of Vale, Bessie Bumgarner of Lenoir, and Dorothy Cook of Lawndale; six grandchildren, John Bridges, Jr., David Bridges, Blake Bridges, McKenzie Townsend, Maddie Townsend and Sabrina Bourgeois; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Bridges. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sharon Cook, Linda Elliott and Sandy Bourgeois for all the care given to Mrs. Townsend in the past couple years. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM on Sunday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston. The funeral service will be at 3:00PM on Sunday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. RA Brackett and David Bridges officiating. The burial will follow the service in the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery, Casar.
