Obituary of Elaine Struve Elaine M. Struve, 92, died peacefully in her home in Mardela Springs, Maryland, on June 25, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Elaine Mae Sylvia in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of Constantine and Estella (Pittsley) Sylvia. Valedictorian at her high school, Elaine graduated with honors from Brown University with a degree in international studies. After meeting her future husband, Joseph M. Struve, they joined the U.S. Navy, where she served as a lieutenant. Returning to the States from Cheltenham, England, where they were stationed, they raised five children in Landover Hills, Bowie, and Mardela Springs, Maryland. A devoted wife to her dear Joe, Elaine selflessly gave her energy and love to her children and grandchildren. We will miss her kind spirit, her bright sense of humor, and her loving heart. Elaine was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon and her husband Joseph. She is survived by four children, Susan, Jay, David, and Mark (Susan) Struve; four grandchildren, Sharon Crissinger, Sara Smoker, and Wayne and Shawn (Lindsey) Messick; and three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kallen, and Sloane Messick. A private service will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Coastal Hospice coastalhospice.org/. Notes of condolence may be sent to the Struve Family, P.O.
