Deborah Frances Stempin, 67, of Ladson, South Carolina, widow of Leonard C. Stempin, passed away on the evening of Monday, May 28, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Debbie was born on July 31, 1950 in Summit, Wisconsin to Thomas and Faye (Williams) Templeton. After her graduation from high school in Albuquerque, NM, Debbie joined the US Navy in 1968 where she was trained in the field of communications and transferred to NAS Pensacola. Upon completion of that tour she was stationed… Read More » in Dallas, TX where she served as a Navy recruiter. After 3 years of serving in the Navy, she was honorably discharged and worked civil service at the Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, SC and later re-enlisted in the Air Force Reserve under a special Civil Service/Air Force Reserve program where she continued her military service until her retirement in 2002 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Debbie’s combined military and civil service employment exceeded 28 years. Her accomplishments also include the following numerous medals and awards: The AF Achievement Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Award Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Longevity Service Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, AF Training Ribbon, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Good Conduct Medal, AF Reserve Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Debbie was an animal lover and avid supporter of local and national humane societies. She will be greatly missed by her 4-legged companion, Gidget. Survivors include her daughter Lora Clekis (Nicholas), granddaughters: Calista and Zoe Clekis; step-sons: Randolph and Jeffrey Stempin; sisters; Carol Templeton and Shelley Roupas along with nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Leonard Stempin, her parents and step-son Bradley Stempin. We would like to thank our special friend, Melissa Henderson, who was always available to help at a moment’s notice. The family will have a Celebration of Life and Interment at the Beaufort VA National Cemetery where Debbie and Len will both receive full military honors. The date has not yet been determined.
