Roma Elizabeth Jaques Gold October 14 1928 May 21 2018 (age 89)

Our beloved mother, grandmother & friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in her granddaughter’s home where she had been living. She was blessed to be surrounded by family and friends coming to visit just before her passing. Roma grew up in Ririe, Idaho on a farm with 3 siblings; Helen, Jay and Rex. Roma’s family eventually moved to Clearfield, Utah where she met her first husband, Keith H. Jaques, at a dance. After a 3 months courtship they were married and sealed for time and eternity on September 7, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Salt Lake City for her husband to complete his law degree, and then moved to Washington D.C. working for Congressmen Douglas Stringfellow. This was an exciting time of life for the couple as they attended ambassador meetings, balls, rubbed shoulders with dignitaries, and political figures such as President Kennedy and President Nixon. Washington D.C. is also where Roma had all 5 of her children. Roma and Keith were faithful members of the LDS church their entire lives serving in numerous church callings. Roma bore her simple, beautiful testimony as saying, “I’ve just always known and felt the church was true. My own mother spoke to us children about her testimony, or scriptures, or words of the prophet at nearly every dinner and I could just always feel of her strong testimony and of the truth.” Roma enjoyed hobbies like sewing and playing cards. She also had a particular passion for swimming that her children and grandchildren remember her by. Even though her husband Keith never got in the water, she’s remembered as being in the water as often as possible from snorkeling in Hawaii, swimming at bear lake, to the different homes she owned that she made sure had a pool for her to swim in. Grandma Roma was also known for her astounding beauty throughout her life. She won many beauty pageants and her pictures and presence always took people off guard by her natural beauty. She was not only beautiful on the outside, she was beautiful, and remarkably strong on the inside. After her years in Washington D.C. her husband was forced into early retirement for poor health and the family moved to Bountiful, Utah. After all the children had grown and left home, Roma and Keith moved into Pheasantbrook condominiums in Centerville, Utah. The couple would go south for the winter, and come back north for summer. Grandchildren remember visiting this home and always having a warm, welcome from Roma. She would always have popsicles in the freezer, ready to play rummy (and beat you every time), tolerate you pounding on the piano, take you swimming, and let you sneak into her bed at night when you were scared. When her husband Keith passed away in 2000 Roma met another widower in her ward, Joel Gold, whom she married in 2002. Joel and Roma had a wonderful companionship and fit many fun memories into their 12 year marriage, Joel passed away in 2014. After Joel’s passing Roma was manifesting dementia symptoms so her granddaughter, Rachel, began living with and caring for Roma in 2014 and cared for her until her passing. In 2017 Rachel and the family hired assistance for her care and Roma was blessed by remarkable care by Lorena Escalante and Fred Tesch. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Keith H. Jaques and Joel Gold, her daughter & son-in-law Linda & Vern Stanley, and her siblings Helen Powell, Jay Park, and Rex Park. Roma leaves behind her children (and their spouses); Howard (& Patty) Jaques, Bradley Jaques, Lori Mortensen and Cynthia (& John) Saltzgiver, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Monday, May 28th from 6-8pm and Tuesday, May 29th and from 12:45-1:45pm followed by a funeral 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Washington Heights Cemetery in Ogden. favorite_border Donations Pledges
