Obituary for Gene Clyburn Wallace Mr. Gene Clyburn Wallace, 86, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at his home. He was born July 2, 1931 in Camden, a son of the late Simeon Wallace and Clara Denton Wallace. He was a loving husband of 58 years, and was a loving daddy, Pawpaw, brother, uncle and friend. An Eagle Scout, he was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy and had retired from the US Air Force as a T/Sgt, and had retired from the South Carolina State Guard as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Air Force Association. He was an avid Gamecock fan. Mr. Wallace was a member of the Second Baptist Church and was active in all areas of church activities. He was a member of the “Brooklyn Jet Setters.” He followed his grandchildren’s activities throughout their lives. He volunteered at HOPE of Lancaster and was a supervisor over the prisoner detail at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. He collected coins and baseball cards. Mr. Wallace was a Life Member of Stafford Graham American Legion Post 31 where he served as Adjutant and on the Boys State and Girls State programs. He was also a life member of VFW Post 5936. He was a Mason and life member of Antioch Masonic Lodge # 399. He was a Shriner with Hejaz Shrine Temple and was a member and Past President of Jackson Shrine Club. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Wallace will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Brian Saxon and Rev. Todd Robinson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park. Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife, Hattie Elizabeth “Lib” Wallace; three daughters, Cheryl W. Childers and her husband Michael, Pamela Jean Wallace and Shyla W. Dawkins and her husband Travis all of Lancaster; two half-sisters, Jackie McNeely and Donna Taylor; five grandchildren, Michael E. Childers, Sydney M. Cauthen, Kyndall J. Wallace, Delaney R. Cauthen and Chloe E. Dawkins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan W. Sistare. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Second Baptist Church and other times at the home.
