Clifford L. Matthews, 70, husband of Lizzie D. Matthews, died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. Mr. Matthews was born on June 2, 1947, in Florence County, son of the late Leroy Matthews and Hannah Miles Matthews. He attended Lee’s Tabernacle Church and was a blessing to all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Lizzie DuBose Matthews of Scranton; son, Mark (Debbie) Matthews of Coward; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Hank) Floyd of Barrineau, Corey Matthews and Cassie Matthews, both of Coward; great grandchildren, Reagan Floyd and Jordan Floyd, both of Barrineau; sister, Harriett Russ of Florence; special friend, who was like a son, Mark (Tammy) McKnight of Scranton; and he was a mentor to all of his nieces, nephews and family friends. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Matthews and sister, Isabelle Langston. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. Memorials may be made to Lee’s Tabernacle Church, 2226 N. Matthews Road, Scranton, SC 29591.
