Thelma Valeria Thornton, 108, of Niles, OH and formerly of Bristolville passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles. She was born October 11, 1909, in Spokane, OH, the daughter of the late Jay N. Munson and Grace G. (Smith) Munson. On June 28, 1936, she married Ray E. Thornton. They shared 32 years of marriage until his passing September 3, 1968. She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Oberlin Primary Training School. After college, Thelma became an elementary school teacher with the Bristol school district for over 30 years. Thelma was a member of Cortland United Methodist Church and a former member of the Bristolville United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was a member of the Sager Cemetery Association, Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies, Bristol Historical Association, Trumbull Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She enjoyed quilting and hand work, taking care of her yard and in her younger years, she enjoyed traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandsons. She is survived by her daughters, Nannette Tyler of Howland, OH and Colleen Aliberti of Niles, OH; son, Corbett (Elaine) Thornton of Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Edward A.Tyler, Timothy M. (Karen) Tyler, Amy E. Thornton and Molly M. (Mike) Addington; great-grandsons, Jered T. Tyler and twins, Maxwell O. and Henry A. Addington. Besides her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2018, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sager Memorial Park, Bristolville, Ohio.
