Obituary for Sylvia Allen Sylvia Allen a resident of Nyack, New York, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital on May 1, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, West Indies she was a graduate of Montego Bay High School. She was a member of Faith Temple Assembles of God Church in Montego Bay, and directed the youth choir there. She worked in Jamaica for a while before immigrating to Canada. A graduate of York University, Canada, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Children’s Literature, and a Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Toronto, Canada. She taught in the elementary schools in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada for many years before leaving for New York where she taught English in high schools in the Bronx, Mount Vernon, and in Spring Valley and Ramapo High Schools. A member of Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship, she was active in the church and was a group leader in one of their Bible Study Groups. Sylvia is survived by her three children, Andrew, Matthew, Joshua and his wife Stephina, a granddaughter Hadassah, one and a half years old, a newborn grandson Josiah, a month old, and sisters Margaret, Alicia and Adell. The family is thankful for the care she received while she was a patient in Good Samaritan Hospital, a resident at the Willows of Ramapo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the Friedwald Center for Rehabilitation, the Helen Hayes Rehabilitation and the Burke Rehabilitation Center. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 7 PM at the Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship Church 384 New Hempstead Rd., New City, NY.
