Obituary of Angelo Maggi Maggi, Angelo Carlo, “Take me home, country roads to the place I belong…take me home, country roads.” Angelo Carlo Maggi was born in the municipality of Deiva Marina in the province of La Spezia, Italy on October 5, 1924. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 18, 2018. He was married to Laura Donenghi for 65 years. They have a daughter, Carla Parisi, son in law, Kenneth Parisi, three grandsons: Justin, (married to Sara) Christopher, (married to Chelsea) and Kenneth. He has three great grandchildren: Jasper, Tabitha and Flora. Surviving is also a sister, Flora, 97 years old, of LaSpezia, Italy. He was predeceased by sisters Angela and Gina. Angelo bravely served during World War II as a “partisan.” He volunteered near the end of the war to aid the British and American forces in capturing any remaining enemy soldiers from the hills and small towns of Liguria, northern Italy. He proudly displayed his Certificate of Patriotism, signed by the British Commander of the Allied Forces in the Mediterranean. Mostly everyone called him Carlo and his reputation for his homemade ravioli and manicotti is known far and wide. Along with his wife, Laura, they ran a small “Mom and Pop” deli in their Paterson neighborhood. The store was a hub of social activity where friends and neighbors gathered to not only buy items but to also to catch up on the news and local happenings. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may visit Sunday 4:00-8:00PM. For more information, go to www.festamemorial.com.
