Helen M. Danko (nee Gonda) 89 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 30, 2018 at her residence. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph J. Danko; cherished sister of Mary (late Lawrence) Hays and the late Michael, John and Steve Gonda, Anna Hausder and Dolores Terhorst; dearest sister-in-law of John (Mary) Danko; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am on Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th St., and Lincoln Ave., Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. There was no visitation, funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Helen Danko was born on February 28, 1929 in Acme, Pennsylvania to John and Anna (Roman) Gonda and was a longtime resident of Whiting. Currently a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, formerly of the Immaculate Conception Church, Whiting and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, BR. 81. A devoted wife, Helen will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to St. John Church, Whiting, would be appreciated.
