Mr. Howard J. Hicks, age 77 of Columbia, SC passed away on Thursday May 17, 2018. He was preceded in death by parents, William Harrison and Sallie Robinson, his wife, Saundra Sheridan Hicks, and brother Robert Steven Hicks. Born in Gainesville, GA and lived in Smyrna, GA, Howard attended Campbell High School in Smyrna, received his Bachelors degree from George Washington University and his Masters degree from the University of South Carolina. Howard taught Computer Science at the University of South Carolina and Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina. Howard is survived by his brothers Roy Vernon and David Ray Hicks; sisters, Betty Dills, Linda Gerstenlauer, Kay Mackinder, and Kathy Heeth. Funeral service will be held 12:00pm Saturday, May 19th at Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Smyrna, GA. The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm Saturday, May 19th at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. His burial will take place at Fort Jackson, SC on Monday, May 21 at 1:00pm. The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation ( http://parkinson.org ) and Wounded Warrior Project ( http://support.woundedwarriorproject.org )
