Obituary for Edna Ramona Hansen
Edna Ramona Hansen, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 29, 2018 in American Fork, Utah. Ramona was born to Samuel Jackson Rainwater and Mary Eunice Grant on May 13, 1929 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She grew up with two brothers (Jack and George) and two sisters (Vera and Sylvia), whom she loved dearly. Being raised in a small rural town during the great depression and WWII, like so many of her generation, strongly imprinted upon her the values of thrift, self-reliance, and hard work, which she taught to her children.
Ramona married Russell Herman Hansen on June 29, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised seven children in Orem and Salem, Utah. Russell passed away suddenly from a heart attack on October 25, 1983, after which Ramona lived most of her remaining years in Lindon, Utah.
Ramona was an active member of the LDS church, and was willing to serve wherever she was called, which included being a full-time missionary (Southern States Mission), ward and stake Relief Society President, and temple worker. A long-time genealogist, she was also very active in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), serving as the Regent of the Wasatch Range Chapter. Her greatest treasure was her family. Ramona will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She provided unconditional love and support to all—willing to give life’s most precious gift, her time.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and one son (Mark). She is survived by her children: Pennie (Lee) Christensen, Grant (Cathy) Hansen, Satu Hansen, Tom (Leeann) Hansen, Gayle (Jeff) Tygesen, James “Tucker” (Charole) Hansen, Alan (Mary) Hansen, twenty-eight grandchildren, and sixty-seven great-grandchildren.
The family is incredibly grateful to the many friends, caregivers, and nurses at Stonehenge of American Fork. The family also thanks the amazing members of the Lindon 1st Ward.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at the LDS meetinghouse at 731 E Center Street, Lindon, Utah. There will be a viewing from 9:00-10:30 AM prior to the services. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery (1520 N 800 E).
